Hair Drug Tests
Of the three home drug testing methods; saliva drug tests, urine drug
tests and hair drug tests; hair drug testing is by far the most
accurate. Hair cannot be tested at home and must be sent to a
laboratory for analysis. Labs use Gas Chromatography/Mass
Spectrometry (GC/MS) equipment to analyze the hair sample on the
molecular level. Not only does this testing method yield the
most accurate results but can screen for drug use up to 90 days prior.
When a person ingests a drug, either from inhalation, ingestion or
intravenously, the drug is metabolized into the blood stream.
As the hair shaft grows the new hair requires blood and nutrients, if
there is a drug in the bloodstream then that drug is absorbed into the
hair shaft on the molecular level.
There are two types of hair drug tests that are available at Drug Test
Kits. We offer a standard drug test as well as a prescription
drug test.
The hair drug test sample is very easy to collect. Simply cut
a 1.5" (2.5 cm) section of hair and place it in the included hair drug
test sample container. Be sure to cut the hair as close to
the scalp as possible as this will show the most recent drug use. You
need 50-80 strands of hair for the test, bunched together this would be
the size of the tip of a shoelace.
So why use a hair drug test instead of other drug tests?
As previously stated, hair drug testing is the most accurate type of
home drug testing. But there are two more benefits of hair
drug testing. Firstly, the test is able to tell how much of
the drug is in the sample. This indicates whether the person
is light or occasional user, a regular user or a heavy user of that
particular drug. This is helpful in gauging the level of
addiction or dependency on the drug. An additional benefit to
hair drug tests is how far back drug use can be detected.
Urine and saliva tests screen for drugs used 1-3 days before the test
is administered. Hair drug testing screens for drug use in
the past 3 months. Hair drug testing is the best
method for testing long-term drug use.
